A Note on the Name Change

First, let me start off by saying a big THANK YOU to all of you who have supported my blog. It honestly means so much to me.

I want to let you know why I changed the name of my blog. It has recently come to my attention that last year someone trademarked the word "Frugalista" and has been attempting to enforce that trademark. While I do not agree with the validity of the trademark given that Frugalista is a common word that was used long before she attempted to trademark it, there is currently still a live trademark on file and I do not want to infringe on that trademark.

Therefore, I have changed the name of my site to "The DC Frugal Girl" and the new website is www.thedcfrugalgirl.com and Twitter is now @DCFrugalGirl. Although the name has changed, this is still the same great money saving frugal blog. If you followed me on Google Friend Connect, you are still following and if you followed me on Facebook please check to see if the likes continued. Some had to be removed so I could change the name, so please please please re-like my page if you were one of the random names that I had to remove so I could get the number under 100 to change the name (It pained me to have to remove anyone and I greatly appreciate your support, I chose the names at random so please don't take it personally and I hope you will re-like my page).

Also, if you have "grabbed" my badge or linked to my page, please update it with the new link and grab the new badge on my side bar. Those of you who I know have me listed on their blog roll, I will be emailing you directly with the new info.

Everyone, thank you again for your support and I promise there are great frugal ideas to come!

Costume Review from CostumeDiscounters.com

I was so excited to recently receive the opportunity to review a costume from CostumeDiscounters.com. Maybe chock it up to my childhood as an assistant clown to my mom (who was a professional clown) at parties, but I love costumes. I am always looking for great costume ideas for Halloween or the occasional impromptu costume party.

Since it is too soon to be thinking about Halloween for next year yet, I decided I would stick with the season and I chose to review this sassy Sexy Santas Little Helper Costume.

First off, I was very impressed by the selection of womens costumes that were available. Costume Discounters carry such a large variety, even within each type. For example, there were lots of different lady Santa costumes available ranging from the traditional Mrs. Clause to the younger, hipper Santa's helper costume that I chose. They have lots of fun, creative, and sexy costumes.

Ok now onto the costume! It was super cute. The costume consisted of a one piece red velvet-like halter dress and the striped stockings in the picture above. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the costume. Usually when I think about costumes I have nightmares about the poor quality costumes you find strewn about the temporary Halloween store, but this was so much better. The costume was well made and had a sturdy zipper closure on the back. The fabric also had a lot of stretch and give making it very comfortable. My only complaint about the dress what that it was on the short side -- I will definitely have to wear something under it when I wear it. I also LOVED the stockings...so much so that I wore them ALL day today (they looked like socks under my jeans) and got lots of comments on how festive they were. The costume also arrived quickly and in sturdy packing. It came in one of those heavyweight plastic hanging bags, which will make storing it easy as well.

Overall, I think this costume was great and a wonderful representation of the products and service that Costume Discounters provide. What's also great is their prices! They have costumes that are affordable on any budget. I strongly recommend that you check them out next time you are need of a great costume!

FTC Disclousre: This was not a paid post, but I did receive my choice of costume to review from CostumeDiscounters.com. All opinions expressed are 100% my own honest opinions based on the product sent for review. I received this opportunity through my involvement with the Product Review Place.

EdenFantasy Massage Oils Review

I was recently given the opportunity to do a review for EdenFantasys. Although they are generally an adult shop, they also carry a wide variety of massage oils, candles, and novelty gifts that would be perfect for bachelor/bachelorette parties or just creating a little more romance.

My husband works in a fairly physical job so I took the opportunity to review The Collection Oils Gift Set to treat him to a back massage. The oils were wonderful! They came in variety pack of five different scents and smelled wonderful. The bottles they came in were also super-cute and would be easy to refill.

This is just one of the great products you can find on EdenFantasys. They have carry lots of other massage oils and they also carry many different types of candles and carry other great products like body shimmer powder. These make great gifts to surprise you significant other for an anniversary or Valentine's Day with a little romance. They also carry gift packs and novelty gifts that would be great for bachelorette parties and bridal showers.

The best give I ever gave was a handmade ceramic vase to my mom. My mom has always been incredibly artistic. She is so creative and imaginative, and she is always creating wonderful things. Unfortunately, the creative gene did not get passed to me. While I would make little craft projects growing up, I lacked the artistic talent that my mom hand. I could not draw or paint, despite my appreciation for the arts. I even voluntarily took art classes instead of study hall in high school to try and develop the skill – to no avail. It was the only class in high school that I ever received an “A for effort” in.

When I went to college it was mandatory that I take an art class. The prospect of that terrified me. I was never good at art and now I would have to do it at the college level. So I put it off until the last semester of my Associate’s degree. It was either take the art class or don’t graduate. So after considering my options, I decided to take a pottery class. I though maybe with the concepts of form and function, this might be a type of art I could take to. And it turned out to be right!

For once I was enjoying art and could share in the enjoyment that my mom had from creating beautiful things. When it came time for midterms we had to make a coil pot. Everyone knows that basic coil pot – we made them in elementary school. You take the clay and roll it into a skinny long roll strip and then wrap it in circles until it forms a little pot. Well our pots had to be at least 12 inches tall. After putting it off as long as I could, I started to work on my pot. And after a while my pot became a vase. After working on it for a while longer, I scalloped the top and added roses I created to the rim. I managed to glaze it and fire it with no problems.

For the first time, I was truly proud of an artistic creation and I knew exactly what to do with it! I was going to give it to my mom – the person who inspired me and whom I knew would appreciate. I can remember the look of shock and appreciation on her face when I brought it home and gave it to her. She knew how hard it was for me to take to art and how much time I had spent to make that vase beautiful. This was also the first piece of custom, hand-made pottery she had every received. She still shows it off on display in her living room.

iCaughtSanta.com Review and Giveaway

I am pleased to announce that iCaughtSanta.com is sponsoring The DC Frugalista's very first giveaway!!!

Know some people who have lost their belief in Santa? Well iCaughtSanta.com allows you to create proof that Santa visited your house on Christmas Eve!!!

The iCaughtSanta.com program allows you to a picture from your house, ideally your living room with your Christmas tree or you fireplace, and insert a Santa image into the photo. The whole process is super simple. First you pick the photo you want to insert Santa into and upload it to the iCaughtSanta.com website. Next, you pick the Santa you want to insert. They have 20 different Santa poses you can choose from! Everything, from Santa being caught in the act to sleeping in a chair to having a kiss on his cheek. Then you move the Santa to the spot you want and size him to fit the scene. Next, you can pick out a border if you wish. If you're planning on creating prints of you iCaughtSanta.com photo, they suggest that 5x7 prints are the best. Once you finalize your picture, you check out and will be able to download it to your computer. It's that simple!

Here is my iCaughtSanta.com creation.

The best part is how realistic the Santa looks in the scene. You can't even tell that it's an inserted image!

Normally, to create a photo on iCaughtSanta.com it costs $9.95, not a bad price for the look on your child's face when you show them the proof!

Additionally, if you use promo code The-DC-Frugalista you'll get 25% off!!!

BUT wait there's more! iCaughtSanta.com has generously provided 5 iCaughtSanta.com credits for giveaways to The DC Frugalista readers!!!

Here's the details:

This giveaway will close at 10 pm on Dec. 21st giving the winners plenty of time to create their iCaughtSanta.com creation before Christmas Day!

5 winners will be randomly chosen (using Random.org) and will be emailed a code to redeem for an iCaughtSanta.com photo.

Completing each task below will result in 1 entry. Only the mandatory entry is required to enter the giveaway, the others are extra bonus entries if you wish! Each entry must be left in a separate comment and be sure to leave your email address in at least one comment so that I can let you know if you win! (if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email here, you can send it to me at thedcfrugalista@gmail.com)

Python Printable Games Camel Race Bible Trivia Game Review

Next in my series of Python Printable Games reviews, and unfortunately the last product I have to share although be sure to check out their website for other great products!, is the Camel Race Bible Trivia Questions Game! This is such a cute game to help educate kids about Bible basics. The game is interactive that will get you up and moving, while answering educational Bible questions.

The printable Bible quiz game is super easy to set up and play. You start by downloading and printing out the game file. You then take the numbers and put them on the floor around your room (you can easily use masking tape and tape them to the floor). For each question that you get right, your camel moves forward one space. The person who gets to the end first wins. The questions are Bible basics appropriate for any age level and span lots of different knowledge areas. This is a wonderful interactive and educational game! Especially now around the holidays, this is a great time to play this Christmas Bible trivia for kids.
