Redbox Codes

Want to spend a night in watching a movie? Be sure to checkout the one night free rental codes for Redbox. Redbox is the DVD rental vending machines you see in most supermarkets. You enter the code at the Redbox kiosk and you get one night's free rental (then the usual $1/night after that). You can get a list of all the current Redbox releases here (although availability by machine varies).

Great for a free date night in!

Here are just a few codes I've come across:

BREAKROOM

DVDONME

REDBOX (for first time customers only)

If you want to stay up-to-date on free Redbox codes as they come up, check out Inside Redbox. You can also sign up to be alerted when new codes come up.

My First Attempt at Real Coupon-ing

So after spending about two weeks scouring for coupons and learning what I could without actually trying from some blogs, I made my first major coupon-ing attempt at my local Safeway. Not everything we bought was on sale or something we had a coupon for, but overall we saved 37% on our bill. Not half bad!

Here's a re-cap of the best deals:

  • Pert 2-in-1 shampoo: Normally 3.49, on sale for 1.99 and used MFQ for $1/1 = $0.99
  • Ziploc Freezer Bags: Normally 3.19, Store Q for Buy 1 for 1.49, then MFQ for $0.55 off any one Ziploc product which then doubled = $0.39
  • Halls Cough Drops: Normally 1.99 ea, on sale 2 for $3, MFQ for $1/2 = 2 bags for $2
  • Mrs. T's Pierogies: Normally $3.00, on sale for $2.25, MFQ for $1/1 = $1.25

Other greats finds:

  • Kraft Mac & Cheese $0.69/box with Store Q
  • Dixie Disposable Plates $1.49 with Store Q
  • Kleenex 110ct Tissue Box $0.79 with Store Q
  • Pepperidge Farm Cookies BOGO so $3.39 for 2 bags with Sto

Another New Group Buying Site

Another group buying site worth checking out is Grab It. Their deals tend to run for a little longer than most other sites and because they are still new there is less of a chance of them selling out. We got a Dinner Feast for 4 from Chicken Out through there for only $14 and ate it for leftovers for days.

Another Sweet Score

We've been having a sweet tooth over at our place so I stopped into CVS this evening to see if I could score another good deal on some Halloween treats. I scanned my CVS card and got another $0.99 off Brach's Candy Corn and $1/2 Fun Size M&M Bags. M&M's were on sale for $1.50 and the Brach's was still only $0.99.

Worked out like this:

Brach's Candy Corn $0.99
Fun Size Plain M&M's $1.50
Fun Size Peanut M&M's $1.50

- Q for $0.99 off Brach's
- Q for $1/2 M&M's

Prepare for winter with a free sample of Vaseline Intensive Rescue lotion. They are giving away up to a million samples! I used this stuff last year and it saved my hands (partially my fault for refusing to wear gloves). Confirmation e-mail says it arrives in two weeks, pretty quick for a sample!

Group Buying Websites for Discounts

Everyone by now knows about Groupon and Living Social, but group discount buying websites are popping up all over. The list below covers the major ones in DC. You can sign up for email alerts from them and they also have some really amazing deals. Be sure to check them all because they offer different deals every day and they tend not to overlap too much.

Groupon

Livingsocial

Buy With Me

Eversave

What's the Deal

GoldStar (not exactly a group buying site, but offers awesome deals on local event tickets)

Tippr

CornerDish

Specialicious

I will update this list as I come across more!

Old Navy Online Deals

Free Movie Passes

I wrote before about downloading advance screening passes through FilmMetro, but there are other ways to score free advance tickets. In the DC area lots of places do giveaways of advance screening passes. I never thought in a million years I would win some this way, but I entered into one last week and won 2 passes to an advance screening of Hereafter from Edge. So moral of the story is don't shy away from things because you have to send an entry form, you just might win!

For all you DIY-ers, as part of their Home Improver Club, Home Depot offers free in-store home improvement workshops. You can sign up on their website for hour long workshops that take place on Saturdays in your local store. Some of the topics for workshops in October are: decorative painting solutions, decorative flooring solutions, and toilet repair. Some of them are even back-to-back on the same day if you're interested and want to make an afternoon out of it. If you're like me and clueless about where to start, this is a great free and easy way to start learning!

Free Stuff from VistaPrint

Everyone has seen the ads that VistaPrint will send you 250 free business cards, but did you know you can also get other customized samples of VistaPrint products for free? Rights now VistaPrints list of free offers includes: a photo wall calendar, tote bag, t-shirt, photo flip book, sticky notes, rubber self-inking address stamp, pens, return address labels, post cards, and a mouse pad. You are limited to one free of each product  and only a few products per order (I think its either 3 or 5, I can't remember for sure) and for the product to be free you have to allow them to leave the VistaPrint information on it. All you have to pay for is shipping. To order any of these products from VistaPrint click here.

The free tote bags have lots of Halloween designs perfect for trick-or-treating!!

Around our wedding I ordered a bride & groom mug, a rubber stamp with our address on it, and a tote bag. All of the products were great quality, the VistaPrint advertising is very small and the shipping was less than $10.

Free Candy Corn at CVS!

Right now when you scan your ExtraCare Card at the coupon dispenser in CVS you'll get a coupon for $0.99 off Brach's Candy Corn and currently the 7.5 oz. bag is on sale for $0.99! Voila, free candy corn and no other purchase necessary. (This did, however, really confuse the self-checkout assistant at my local CVS).

Check Out CornerDish

CornerDish is one of those deep discount deal of the day groups for the Washington, DC Area. It provides great deals to good restaurants at affordable prices. If you sign up through my referral link by clicking here you automatically get a $10 credit to your account that can be used toward a deal purchase (in full disclosure I get a $10 credit to my account to). Once you sign up you will be able to get your own referral link to send to all of your friends to pass the savings along and for each friend who signs up through your referral link, you will each get a $10 credit!

Major Restaurant.com Deals!

Restaurant.com provides discounted gift certificates to many, many restaurants nationwide. Usually $25 gift certificates to any given restaurant can be bought for $10 (there are also other options $10 for $4 or $50 for $20). BUT right now if you use the coupon code ENJOY you can get them for 80% off. This means you can get a $25 gift certificate for just $2!

I should note that the gift certificates are subject to certain restrictions that vary by restaurant and will be listed when you look at any given certificate for purchase on their website. Restrictions are usually based on the minimum requirement to use the gift certificate. The ones we have used require you to spend $35 to be able to redeem the $25 gift card, but this is still an excellent deal for a night out!

Zburger Frozen Happy Hour!

On Mondays the Tenleytown Zburger does Frozen Happy Hour from 3-6pm where milkshakes are only $0.99! I am not sure if this is only at the Tenleytown location or if other locations participate as well. Be sure to ask for the frozen happy our special when you order though because although Zburger still does the special they no longer have the sign up advertising it and sometimes they don't automatically adjust the price.

Free Pre-Screening Tickets through FilmMetro!

If you're anything like me, you're always looking for something to make a cheap date night out of. I recently stumbled across FilmMetro. It gives out free passes to advance screenings of movies in your area. The sign up is quick and easy, and FREE. As movie screenings come up in your area, FilmMetro will post them and you can download tickets if there are any left. Each ticket admits two people. Tickets do not guarantee entry, so get there early! But I have been to pre-screenings in the past and usually if you get there about an or so before the doors open you should be fine. Notifications of available screenings tend to go up either the day before or the day of so check back frequently.

These screenings take place nationwide, so this is not a deal that is specific to DC. However, most of the screenings available in DC seem to take place at the Gallery Place theater in Chinatown. If you're willing to take a little bit of an adventure there are also a number of locations in the Maryland suburbs and Baltimore.

Save on Holiday Cards

I know it's early to be thinking about sending Christmas Cards, but if you're the type of person that likes to personalize their cards instead of sending the generic boxed sets from the store, you might be interested in Shutterfly's customizable holiday cards. (Although this is being publicized by Shutterfly in their promotions as applicable to their Holiday cards, the fine print points out that the discount applies to ALL stationary cards, greeting cards, and photo cards).

And if you order by 10/13 you can get 20% off all Holiday Cards and Free Shipping if your order is over $30 (with code: SHIP30) .

I ordered my wedding announcements through Shutterfly as well as our wedding photobook and the quality on both was great! The prices are reasonable and the turnaround time is very fast. I will be ordered my Holiday Cards from here!

Amazon Student

Amazon Student is an awesome deal for college students, but it seems not many people know about it! Amazon Student provides Amazon Prime benefits free for a full year to students when they sign up with their .edu email address.

The benefits include: FREE 2-day shipping on textbooks (and most other items) and you can upgrade to one day shipping for only $3.99 (per item) and there is no minimum order size! Regular Amazon Prime benefits cost nearly $80 a year so this is a great deal. If you are already an Amazon Prime member you can sign up for Amazon Student and Amazon will refund you the remaining months left on your Amazon Prime membership. One difference to note is that if you use Amazon Prime to share with other household members you will NOT be able to share the Amazon Prime benefits of Amazon Student.

Also, if you don't want to be bothered with the hassle of selling and shipping old textbooks yourself, you can turn them in to Amazon and they will give you a gift card for whatever they determine to be the value. You won't get as much this way as if you sold your books yourself (usually only a fraction of the used market price), but you don't have to deal with all the hassle.

CVS Extra Care Coupons and Deals

Whenever I would go into CVS, I would always walk right past the red price checker display. A while back I found out that if you scan your extra care card there it will print out coupons you can use in the store that day. A lot of times they are for products that I might not have stopped in for, but sometimes you can really luck out.

The other day I went in and got two coupons. The first one was $5.50 in ExtraBucks. If you don't know what extra bucks are they basically function like a gift card that you can use toward your purchase (certain things like gift cards and tobacco are excluded and listed on the coupon). I also got a coupon for $5 off any Halloween costume or decoration. Since I had went in there to get snacks for some guests who were coming into town, this worked out pretty well.

I got 2 bags of Salt & Vinegar Chips @ $2.39 each and a Halloween themed canister of caramel corn @ $5.00. I used the Halloween coupon on the caramel corn which left our balance at 4.89 after tax. I had to add
a pack of gum to the order to get the balance above $5.50 so I could use the $5.50 ExtraBucks, but the grand total ended up being $0.66! Would have been less if I picked cheaper gum!

If you don't have an ExtraCare Card you can get one in any store or you can sign up on the CVS Website. They also have a lot of other great deals with your ExtraCare Card so be sure to look for the signs in their store or your sale papers.

AND as an additional discount, until 10/17 you can get 20% of everything through their online store! Just use code CVSBOO at checkout and you get free shipping for non-presciption orders over $49.

Ann Taylor Sale

I love Ann Taylor clothes. It is probably the only brand my mom and I agree on. They are flattering, relatively timeless, and well made. However, for many of us a wardrobe of beautiful Ann Taylor clothes is financially out of the question. Luckily, Ann Taylor has amazing sales (and is one of the stores that always keeps their racks organized)!

Right now Ann Taylor's Columbus Day Weekend Sale has great tank top shells and even a few great dresses under $50. In addition to the sale prices you get an additional 40% off all markdowns in store and online! I went this past weekend and got two patterned tank tops for under $5. Each was on sale for $3.88 and then got an additionally 40% of that!

Right now I am craving their Ruffle Collar Tank (at left) that is marked down to $9.88 and with the discount would ring in at under $6.

The additionally 40% off is taken automatically in stores. To get the discount online use the code EXTRA40 at checkout.
