I've been busy!

This past week of triple couponing has been quite the adventure, but I must say the staff of the Glen Burnie ShopRite are absolutely fantastic. They are so willing to cooperate, whether its getting items down from the overstock above or making corrections when something does not ring up right.

I've also been redoing my coupon binder. It need it. I have finally migrated to a trapper and a new organization system -- a dedicated post on that later.

BUT here's the VERY VERY VERY important news! The DC Frugal Girl is MOVING! Since I am no longer in DC and expanding quite a bit in terms of content, you'll be able to find all the same great posts at www.EndlesslyFrugal.com. If you're a GFC follower, don't worry! your feed will change automatically over to the new site. I am VERY excited about this and it will be a much more comprehensive site. Look forward to seeing you all there!

Father's Day Traditions

My dad has unfortunately been out of the picture for a while, but I am blessed with a wonderful Father-in-Law to celebrate Father's Day with. My Father-in-Law is one of those people who definitely does not like to make a fuss about Father's Day. It is more important to him, and rightfully so, just to spend time with family. So our Father's Day tradition is to go over to their house and get take out from his favorite steakhouse. We get him whatever he wants and then spend the evening devouring it at home with the dog anxiously awaiting any scraps that may fall (or be handed down to him) from the table. We are also always sure to get him a funny Father's Day card, something I think he looks forward to opening each year. I look forward to finding the perfect card again this year and hopefully not having to watch the golf channel during dinner again =)

For some great Father's Day card selections, be sure to checkout everything Tiny Prints has to offer for Father's Day.

Shutterfly: What I love About Spring

Spring is one of my favorite seasons. It is the light after a long winter and a breath of fresh air before summer begins. The weather is perfect, everyone seems more cheerful, and it comes with its fair share of happy days packed with reasons to celebrate.

Spring has lots of wonderful memories for me and Shutterfly is always my go-to source for my stationary needs. College graduation is always in the spring and this year I graduated law school! This was graduation number 3 and by far the longest and the best. Talk about a spring to remember =) I can't wait to order my graduation announcements. Spring also brings Mother's Day and Father's Day, which are wonderful reasons to spend time with family and have cookouts with some delicious food. We are gearing up to order some pretty wonderful Father's Day cards this year.

Spring also brings with it a number of other celebrations. My best friend just had her thesis exhibition of her paintings and others are having housewarming parties and get togethers just because. These are all great occasions for personalized gifts. For my friend's thesis opening, I took lots of pictures and I am making her a photo book of all of them as her thesis gift. For our friends with housewarmings personalized mugs are a favorite.

Overall, I love the long days gardening and being able to spend time outdoors with friends and family. Spring is a time to celebrate and enjoy!

Many thanks to Shutterfly for the opportunity to write this post. Have a blog? Sign up  for a chance at a free photo book from Shutterfly.

groOrganic Garden Planner Review

I love being able to use fresh produce in my cooking, but hate paying a fortune at the store. And I should also disclose, I am a terrible gardener. I was not blessed with a green thumb. So I was very excited to get the opportunity to try the groOrganic Garden Planner.

show-thumb.jpg

In my opinion, this is truly useful and remarkable product. The interface is incredibly user friendly. You login and are then guided through the process of building your ideal garden. You can enter in how many square feet you have to work with, what you would like to grow, etc. You can then map out your ideal garden, moving things around until you like the layout. The program also adapts to weather conditions and your particular method of planting. It then prints out an easy guide for you to use to create your garden space. It will also send you email reminds twice a month about what needs planting.

If you are serious about growing your own food and don't know where to start, I would definitely recommend checking this out!

Find out more info about this product on the groOrganic website here.

AND for a few words from groOrganic:

groOrganic is offering access to their Garden Planner FREE for 30 days!  No obligation, no payment information necessary, NO STRINGS ATTACHED! Get ready for Spring now by designing your garden on your own groOrganic Garden Planner.  Just email your request for a FREE 30 day trial with your complete name and address to FREE30daytrial@groOrganic.com

Book Review: Scars of a Chef

So, I must admit reality tv, especially cooking shows, has become quite the guilty pleasure for me. From time to time, when I'm watching the shows my mind begins to wander to what that life is like and how those people got there.

The book Scars of a Chef:  The Searing Story of a Top Chef Marked Forever by the Grit and Grace of Life in the Kitchen by Rick Tramonto details one such story. This book, written in a memoir style, details Rick Tramonto's path to his fame and acclaim as a chef. It elaborates on the hurdles and bumps in the road on the way to achieving success and working your way to the top (losing a restaurant to a fire for example). The book is impeccably written and captivating. It brings alive the story alive for the reader and allows one to experience the path Rick took. It also shows a Christian radio broadcast was the necessary turning point in Rick's life and re-started his path in the right direction.

This book provides an insight into the reality of Rick's life and will leave you walking away impressed even more by his success knowing what it took to achieve it. It really is an inspirational piece that allows you to reevaluate your own struggles with a renewed perspective. I would definitely recommend picking this one up.

You can find more information on this book and purchase it on Amazon here.

It's Graduation Season!

So as you readers may know, I am a law school. About to be a former law student and move into the world of being a J.D. and eventually a lawyer. My graduation is so close, May 22. This will be my third college graduation, the previous two being my A.A. and B.A. By far this is the most important ceremony I will attend in my academic career, but it is bittersweet.

My grandfather was always my biggest motivator. He believed that I could do anything I put my mind to and encouraged me to pursue my academic interests. I will always remember how happy he was at my A.A. graduation. I was the first person in my family to go straight to college and graduate. He was so proud. Unfortunately, he passed away the next year and I haven't stopped missing him since. I know even though he can't be there physically for my law school graduation, he will be there in spirit and beaming with pride.

My family, my husband and his family, and my friends will all be at my law school graduation this month to cheer me on. This is such a huge milestone and one I've worked non-stop for the last seven years to achieve! So of course, with a big graduation comes the big celebration. Enter Tiny Prints for my graduation announcements and party invites.

Tiny Prints provides stylish, modern and unique graduation stationery including graduation announcements, graduation invitations, and thank you cards for teens. When graduation season has come and gone Tiny Prints will still be here to fill all your stationery needs with their exclusive designs from the nation's top designers. Book Review: 21 Day Weight Loss Kickstart

Have you been looking for ways to revamp your lifestyle? To eat healthier foods? To integrate more vegetables? To lose weight? Well that's what I've learned a lot about in Dr. Barnard's "21 Day Weight Loss Kickstart."

This book is packed with essential information on taking a healthy approach to weight loss and making strides in the right direction for lifestyle changes. Dr. Barnard teaches you how to substitute sugary, craving foods with healthy alternatives. It shows you how to restructure your diet to include more produce to make tasty dishes. And the best part is no calorie counting! These dishes are balanced and will help you jumpstart your metabolism and put you on the path to achieving your goal weight. The recipes are provided for you! Dr. Barnard also explores how these dietary changes can not only help your metabolism, but can also make a healthy impact on diabetes and high cholesterol.

I am certainly going to be putting the knowledge in this book to practice. I'll check-in at the end of the month and let you know how it's gone. AND I'll try to show you how to create some of these easy recipes using coupons and on a budget!

Amazing Bedding Sets on Sale at Macy's!

So as you know, we just bought a new house, so I am of course in the decorating spirit.

Macy's has some great markdowns for Mother's Day including Bedding Sets (and they have lots on clearance too). Today we scored a $300 bedding set for only $99.99! And the other one we were considering was marked down to only $69.99. Some were even as low as $49.99. And they are beautiful.

If you're in the market for some new linens, I would suggest swinging by and taking a peek.

    **Updates, Updates, Updates!!!**

So you are probably wondering, what the heck happened to the DC Frugal Girl for the last two weeks. Well a lot has happened that's what!

First of all, my apologies for not posting about the delay ahead of time. I had expected to have internet/blogger access more frequently, but that ended up not being that case.

So long story short, I had to travel out to Denver to a competition, then came back and packed up and moved into the house that my hubby and I just bought, and today I turned in my last law school assignment ever.

BUT I am happy to say that I am now leaving near tons of great stores and am able to scout out lots of great deals to share. Our new house is in Glen Burnie, but I am still the DC Frugal Girl.

The deals will start rolling back in this evening and I expect that you will be impressed with everything there is to share. Also, I am getting ready to launch a great new affiliate website, so keep an eye out for that!

Finally, the DC Frugal Girl is looking for help. If you are interested in contributing guest posts (for credit of course!) or creating reciprocal post arrangements, please let me know!~

I thank you for bearing with me for this transition and I look forward to your continued readership. I love you all!

    Frugally,
    Dana

Tiny Prints and Mother's Day: What my mother taught me about when I have kids

Mother's Day is right around the corner and it makes me thing about all the wonderful things my mother has done for me and the lessons she has taught me for one day when I have kids of my own.

The most important thing I think I have learned from my mom about raising kids is to have a sense of humor. It is an art to know when to get mad and when to laugh at the situation and the irony life throws at you. Humor is an important part of patience and it was through her humor that my foster brother and I had a fun-filled childhood. I should probably mention that when I was a kid my mom's job was a professional clown. Yes, that's right a clown. She even drove a bright yellow station wagon with a clown nose on the front of it. We were always goofing around and doing fun activities. She was always the most creative mom I knew and the most popular mom among my school friends -- something I aspire to be someday. My mom struck a balance that I know many people find difficult and in retrospect I admire her so much for it. She taught me not to take life so seriously and to enjoy each moment. Something I am always still striving to do.

So in recognition of her humor, I always try to send her a funny Mother's Day card. Tiny Prints has lots of Mother's Day cards to choose from for whatever type of card suits your mom. So be sure to check out Tiny Print's Mother's Day Cards to find the perfect one for your mom this year. Tiny prints offers Mother’s Day greeting cards for all sorts of moms – mom friends, moms, mothers-in-law… You want to tell her she’s doing a great job as a mom or thank her for being there for you? We have the card for it!

Tiny Prints provides simple, modern and unique stationery from Father’s Day Cards to personalized greeting cards to thank you cardsbusiness cards, and even custom wedding invitations or photo birth announcements. Offering exclusive designs from the nation’s top designers, easy card personalization, a powerful preview engine and top-notch customer service and paper quality, their designs have been lauded by numerous television networks, publications and celebrities. With Tiny Prints by your side commemorating every holiday and momentous occasion is a cinch! They offer perfect party invitations for every occasion and memorable personalized photo-gifts like notebooksphoto books and calendars to commemorate the event.

DC Frugal Girl Reading List: The Healing Code

The Healing Code by Alexander Lloyd an Ben Johnson is an interesting book that is meant to help heal the source of your health, success, or relationship issue in a 6 minute "Universal Healing Code." While this book may not be for everyone, it does provide an interesting perspective on the power of the neuro-immune system.

Through telling his own journey and providing insight into the testing it led to, the piece explains how you can overcome what the things that are dragging you down. This book explains that the sources of our problems are much deeper than surface solutions can solve. Through examining areas such as the heart-body connection and the power of beliefs, show how our inner thoughts and feelings can affect our physical health and ability to achieve our goals.

The book ends with a section on solutions that explains what the healing code is, along with a series of testimonials of those who've used this book to their own success. It then explains the Universal Healing Code, which incorporates prayer and a series of exercises. It is then followed by a series of anticipated questions you may have about The Healing Code (which answered many that I had).

What I found most useful and applicable to my life was "The 10-Second Solution to Situational Stress" chapter. This chapter provides useful insight into the effects stress has on our lives and how to overcome situational stress through a brief session of power-breathing and meditation.

While I do not necessarily agree with everything the book puts forth, I think that it is well-written and insightful. It provides a well-supported and balance perspective on its own theory.

    Extreme Couponing Premiers Tonight

So the new episode of Extreme Couponing premiers tonight, will you be watching? I probably will turn it on and check it out, but I have mixed feelings about "extreme" couponers. I fully appreciate the insane savings you can acquire in your daily life by using coupons and hitting sales, but do you really need hundreds of extra toothbrushes and deodorant? Can you really eat forty boxes of cereal before they expire?
I should note that I do say this with that caveat that I respect those who put in the effort to find amazing deals and donate the extra to their local food banks and organizations.

    What are your thoughts?

    Giani Granite Paint Kit Review

I was given the opportunity to review the Giani Granite Paint Kit from Giani Granite. I have to say when I first saw this product I was somewhat skeptical about how the results would come out. The Giani Granite Paint Kit for Countertops transforms your regular wood, laminate or ceramic tile countertops into beautiful faux granite creations. I saw the pictures and they looked great, but I wasn't sure I would be able to recreate that look myself. But boy was I surprised when I was able to transform a table in my apartment into something that looked so much like the pictures and with such an ease.

I started with an end table because I wanted to test the results before taking on a larger project. The kit contains everything you'll need to complete the entire project.

You start by cleaning the surface of the item you're going to transform. No sanding required! Just clean it with a scouring pad and rise thoroughly with water.

After you clean the surface, you paint on a layer of the primer. The kit includes the rollers you'll need and all of the paint cans are clearly numbered with what step they are.

After you wait for the primer to dry (which was so hard to do because I am terribly impatient) you then get to the fun part. You take the included sponge and layer on the colored minerals to get an amazing granite look. As you layer them you'll see the transformation taking place. You can keep layering colors until you get the look you want. Once that dries you then apply two coats of top coat and you're ready to go!

Sorry my pictures are a little blurry but you get the idea! Such a simple transformation. The whole kit is simple and comes with detailed instructions on how to use the product on your surfaces and how to care for it.

Overall, I would give this product an A. The process was simple and the results were gorgeous. This totally transformed my table for my bathroom and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. You do not have to be crafty or artistic for this product to work for you (and I can speak from experience -- I would not consider myself to be the "artistic" type).

Be sure to check out the whole line of colors and products on their website GianiGranite.com

Book Review: The Power Based Life

I am at a pivotal point in my life. I recently got married and am about to graduate law school. This is the point where I can really throw myself into whatever it is I want to do. But what is it?

Enter, The Power Based Life by Mark Flynt. While it may not have provided me a personal answer to my "what to do when I grow up?" question, it does provide a refreshing perspective that will get you thinking. This is more than an off the shelf self-help book. It takes a Christian and multi-faceted approach to helping you understand what you were meant to do and how to get on the path toward achieving those goals.

This book helps provide much needed perspective on the challenges we all face in everyday life and how to overcome them through understanding your circumstances, visualizing and committing to the changes you want to make, and how to implement these changes. Mark Flynt creates this easy to read piece by weaving in his own personal anecdotes and relevant scriptures. The bottom line is that it teaches you to overcome being discouraged by surroundings and to embrace your dreams.
