Father's Day Traditions

My dad has unfortunately been out of the picture for a while, but I am blessed with a wonderful Father-in-Law to celebrate Father's Day with. My Father-in-Law is one of those people who definitely does not like to make a fuss about Father's Day. It is more important to him, and rightfully so, just to spend time with family. So our Father's Day tradition is to go over to their house and get take out from his favorite steakhouse. We get him whatever he wants and then spend the evening devouring it at home with the dog anxiously awaiting any scraps that may fall (or be handed down to him) from the table. We are also always sure to get him a funny Father's Day card, something I think he looks forward to opening each year. I look forward to finding the perfect card again this year and hopefully not having to watch the golf channel during dinner again =)

For some great Father's Day card selections, be sure to checkout everything Tiny Prints has to offer for Father's Day.

Shutterfly: What I love About Spring

Spring is one of my favorite seasons. It is the light after a long winter and a breath of fresh air before summer begins. The weather is perfect, everyone seems more cheerful, and it comes with its fair share of happy days packed with reasons to celebrate.

Spring has lots of wonderful memories for me and Shutterfly is always my go-to source for my stationary needs. College graduation is always in the spring and this year I graduated law school! This was graduation number 3 and by far the longest and the best. Talk about a spring to remember =) I can't wait to order my graduation announcements. Spring also brings Mother's Day and Father's Day, which are wonderful reasons to spend time with family and have cookouts with some delicious food. We are gearing up to order some pretty wonderful Father's Day cards this year.

Spring also brings with it a number of other celebrations. My best friend just had her thesis exhibition of her paintings and others are having housewarming parties and get togethers just because. These are all great occasions for personalized gifts. For my friend's thesis opening, I took lots of pictures and I am making her a photo book of all of them as her thesis gift. For our friends with housewarmings personalized mugs are a favorite.

Overall, I love the long days gardening and being able to spend time outdoors with friends and family. Spring is a time to celebrate and enjoy!

groOrganic Garden Planner Review

I love being able to use fresh produce in my cooking, but hate paying a fortune at the store. And I should also disclose, I am a terrible gardener. I was not blessed with a green thumb. So I was very excited to get the opportunity to try the groOrganic Garden Planner.

show-thumb.jpg

In my opinion, this is truly useful and remarkable product. The interface is incredibly user friendly. You login and are then guided through the process of building your ideal garden. You can enter in how many square feet you have to work with, what you would like to grow, etc. You can then map out your ideal garden, moving things around until you like the layout. The program also adapts to weather conditions and your particular method of planting. It then prints out an easy guide for you to use to create your garden space. It will also send you email reminds twice a month about what needs planting.

If you are serious about growing your own food and don't know where to start, I would definitely recommend checking this out!

Find out more info about this product on the groOrganic website here.

Book Review: Scars of a Chef

So, I must admit reality tv, especially cooking shows, has become quite the guilty pleasure for me. From time to time, when I'm watching the shows my mind begins to wander to what that life is like and how those people got there.

The book Scars of a Chef:  The Searing Story of a Top Chef Marked Forever by the Grit and Grace of Life in the Kitchen by Rick Tramonto details one such story. This book, written in a memoir style, details Rick Tramonto's path to his fame and acclaim as a chef. It elaborates on the hurdles and bumps in the road on the way to achieving success and working your way to the top (losing a restaurant to a fire for example). The book is impeccably written and captivating. It brings alive the story alive for the reader and allows one to experience the path Rick took. It also shows a Christian radio broadcast was the necessary turning point in Rick's life and re-started his path in the right direction.

This book provides an insight into the reality of Rick's life and will leave you walking away impressed even more by his success knowing what it took to achieve it. It really is an inspirational piece that allows you to reevaluate your own struggles with a renewed perspective. I would definitely recommend picking this one up.

You can find more information on this book and purchase it on Amazon here.
