Tiny Prints and Mother's Day: What my mother taught me about when I have kids
Mother's Day is right around the corner and it makes me thing about all the wonderful things my mother has done for me and the lessons she has taught me for one day when I have kids of my own.
The most important thing I think I have learned from my mom about raising kids is to have a sense of humor. It is an art to know when to get mad and when to laugh at the situation and the irony life throws at you. Humor is an important part of patience and it was through her humor that my foster brother and I had a fun-filled childhood. I should probably mention that when I was a kid my mom's job was a professional clown. Yes, that's right a clown. She even drove a bright yellow station wagon with a clown nose on the front of it. We were always goofing around and doing fun activities. She was always the most creative mom I knew and the most popular mom among my school friends -- something I aspire to be someday. My mom struck a balance that I know many people find difficult and in retrospect I admire her so much for it. She taught me not to take life so seriously and to enjoy each moment. Something I am always still striving to do.
So in recognition of her humor, I always try to send her a funny Mother's Day card. Tiny Prints has lots of Mother's Day cards to choose from for whatever type of card suits your mom. So be sure to check out Tiny Print's Mother's Day Cards to find the perfect one for your mom this year. Tiny prints offers Mother’s Day greeting cards for all sorts of moms – mom friends, moms, mothers-in-law… You want to tell her she’s doing a great job as a mom or thank her for being there for you? We have the card for it!

DC Frugal Girl Reading List: The Healing Code
The Healing Code by Alexander Lloyd an Ben Johnson is an interesting book that is meant to help heal the source of your health, success, or relationship issue in a 6 minute "Universal Healing Code." While this book may not be for everyone, it does provide an interesting perspective on the power of the neuro-immune system.
Through telling his own journey and providing insight into the testing it led to, the piece explains how you can overcome what the things that are dragging you down. This book explains that the sources of our problems are much deeper than surface solutions can solve. Through examining areas such as the heart-body connection and the power of beliefs, show how our inner thoughts and feelings can affect our physical health and ability to achieve our goals.
The book ends with a section on solutions that explains what the healing code is, along with a series of testimonials of those who've used this book to their own success. It then explains the Universal Healing Code, which incorporates prayer and a series of exercises. It is then followed by a series of anticipated questions you may have about The Healing Code (which answered many that I had).
What I found most useful and applicable to my life was "The 10-Second Solution to Situational Stress" chapter. This chapter provides useful insight into the effects stress has on our lives and how to overcome situational stress through a brief session of power-breathing and meditation.
While I do not necessarily agree with everything the book puts forth, I think that it is well-written and insightful. It provides a well-supported and balance perspective on its own theory.

Extreme Couponing Premiers Tonight
So the new episode of Extreme Couponing premiers tonight, will you be watching? I probably will turn it on and check it out, but I have mixed feelings about "extreme" couponers. I fully appreciate the insane savings you can acquire in your daily life by using coupons and hitting sales, but do you really need hundreds of extra toothbrushes and deodorant? Can you really eat forty boxes of cereal before they expire?
I should note that I do say this with that caveat that I respect those who put in the effort to find amazing deals and donate the extra to their local food banks and organizations.
What are your thoughts?

Giani Granite Paint Kit Review
I was given the opportunity to review the Giani Granite Paint Kit from Giani Granite. I have to say when I first saw this product I was somewhat skeptical about how the results would come out. The Giani Granite Paint Kit for Countertops transforms your regular wood, laminate or ceramic tile countertops into beautiful faux granite creations. I saw the pictures and they looked great, but I wasn't sure I would be able to recreate that look myself. But boy was I surprised when I was able to transform a table in my apartment into something that looked so much like the pictures and with such an ease.
I started with an end table because I wanted to test the results before taking on a larger project. The kit contains everything you'll need to complete the entire project.
You start by cleaning the surface of the item you're going to transform. No sanding required! Just clean it with a scouring pad and rise thoroughly with water.
After you clean the surface, you paint on a layer of the primer. The kit includes the rollers you'll need and all of the paint cans are clearly numbered with what step they are.
After you wait for the primer to dry (which was so hard to do because I am terribly impatient) you then get to the fun part. You take the included sponge and layer on the colored minerals to get an amazing granite look. As you layer them you'll see the transformation taking place. You can keep layering colors until you get the look you want. Once that dries you then apply two coats of top coat and you're ready to go!
Sorry my pictures are a little blurry but you get the idea! Such a simple transformation. The whole kit is simple and comes with detailed instructions on how to use the product on your surfaces and how to care for it.
Overall, I would give this product an A. The process was simple and the results were gorgeous. This totally transformed my table for my bathroom and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. You do not have to be crafty or artistic for this product to work for you (and I can speak from experience -- I would not consider myself to be the "artistic" type).
Be sure to check out the whole line of colors and products on their website GianiGranite.com
